Review Samsung SCH I759 Galaxy Infinite

Di kelas keluarga Android, beberapa seri Galaxy telah diluncurkan dengan spesifikasi Duos GSM-GSM, tapi tidak dengan Duos GSM-CDMA. Nah, Samsung kini menghadirkan Android pertama yang berkemampuan dual on GSM CDMA untuk pasar Indonesia

 

Desain

Samsung memang telah dikenal sebagai pionir di pasar ponsel dual on. Bahkan jauh-jauh hari sebelum tren ponsel dual on yang populer dibesut oleh vendor merek lokal, Samsung mobile sudah lebih dulu punya portfolio produk di lini tersebut. Tapi entah mengapa, justru Samsung kemudian hanya tertarik untuk meluncurkan ponsel dual on GSM-GSM, sementara kurang greget di lini GSM-CDMA yang pasarnya cukup besar.

Di kelas keluarga Android, yaitu Samsung Galax beberapa seri telah diluncurkan dengan spesifikasi Duos GSM-GSM, tapi tidak dengan Duos GSM-CDMA. Nah, tanpa banyak gembar-gembor dengan iklan yang masif, mungkin karena unit yang diimpor juga tidak banyak, Samsung Mobile Indonesia kini telah menghadirkan ke pasar seri Samsung Galaxy Infinite, smartphone dengan kode SCH-I759 ini menjadi Android dari Samsung pertama yang punya kemampuan dual on GSM CDMA untuk pasar Indonesia.

Dari sisi desain, Galaxy Infinite tidak mengacu pada desain unibody, back cover dapat dilepas untuk mengganti baterai. Galaxy Infinite punya dimensi 122,6 x 62,7 x 11,38 mm dan berat 132 gram. Struktur ponsel pintar ini terbilang ergonomis, meski tidak masuk golongan gadget yang tipis. Setiap sudut dibuat dengan lengkungan yang ideal, menjadikan ponsel ini pas dalam genggaman atau ketika dimasukan dalam saku celana.

Bicara tentang layar, Galaxy Infinite mengusung jenis layar TFT capacitive dengan kedalaman 65 ribu warna. Bentang layar berukuran 4 inchi dengan resolusi 480×800 pixels (WVGA). Menambah kesan manis, pada sekeliling layar dihiasi dengan frame krom. Melihat secara utuh bagian-bagian ponsel ini, tepat diatas layar terdapat lubang earpiece dan sensor cahaya/proximity. Sementara dibawah layar terdapat tombol home yang diapit dua touchpad, masing-masing untuk fungsi back dan recent menu/app.

Posisi tombol pengatur volume ada disisi kanan body, sedangkan  disisi kiri body terdapat tombol on/off yang juga berperan sebagai pengunci layar. Port audio jack 3,5mm disematkan pada bagian atas (top view), sedangkan di bagian bawah (bottom view) terdapat port microUSB dan lubang mikrofon. Tampilan bagian belakang (back cover), diisi dengan lensa kamera dan lubang speaker.

Catatan

Samsung Galaxy Infinite tidak dibekali dengan lensa kamera sekunder untuk keperluan video call. Dibalik back cover, posisi slot SIM card, slot USIM card dan slot microSD tidak hotswap.

Fitur

Andalan Galaxy Infinite pastinya kemampuan koneksi dual on GSM CDMA. Mengusung tipe prosesor dari Qualcomm, koneksi CDMA mendapat perlakukan khusus dibanding GSM. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan kemampuan koneksi GSM yang sebatas di akses GPRS. Sebaliknya kemampuan koneksi CDMA sudah dibalut teknologi 3.5G EVDO Rev A di frekuensi 800 Mhz. Ini artinya kecepatan koneksi yang bisa dihantarkan bisa mencapai 3,1 Mbps, bandingkan dengan GPRS yang 2G hanya punya kecepatan akses maksimum 115 Kbps

Smartphone Android 4.1 Jelly Bean ini mengusung kemampuan imaging dengan lensa 3 megapixels. Lensa kamera tidak dibekali fitur auto focus dan flash light. Sementara menu yang melengkapi adalah night mode, white balance, efek, selft timer, dan foto editor. Kemampuan imaging juga mencakup rekam video dengan resolusi maksimum 720×480 pixels. Untuk menunjang hiburan, pemutar musik menjadi andalan dengan dukungan menu equalizer, shufle, dan playlist. Yang disayangkan, Samsung tidak membeli fitur FM radio di smartphone ini.

Selain koneksi via operator selular, fasilitas koneksi lain yang tersedia adalah WiFi dengan standar b/g/n di frekuensi single band 2.4Ghz. Untuk WiFi, bisa menjalankan firur WiFi hotspot, WiFi direct, dan DLNA. Lain dari itu Bluetooth mengadopsi versi 3.0 dengan kemampuan Bluetooth stero. Jalur koneksi kabel mengadpsi USB 2.0 yang selain digunakan untuk charging dan transfer data, dapat pula disiapkan sebagai sambungan USB OTG (on the go), artinya ponsel dapat membaca isi file di flashdisk dengan dukungan kabel OTG.

Catatan

Dalam paket jualnya tidak dibekali aplikasi office yang full version. Tidak dapat menjalankan koneksi HDMI via kabel MHL.

Kinerja

Samsung Galaxy Infinite disokong prosesor dual core 1.2Ghz serta chipset MSM8625/ESC6270 dari Qualcomm. Sementara kemampuan  RAM (random access memory)-nya 768MB dan memori internal 4GB. Kemampuan koneksi GPRS terkesan dimarginalkan, padahal seharusnya bisa diadopsi hinggal level 3G/HSDPA atau HSUPA. Hal ini terkait dengan adopsi prosesor dari Qualcomm yang lebih fokus pada adopsi jaringan CDMA. Pola ini juga terlihat sama pada smartphone Android dari merek lain yang menggunakan prosesor Qualcomm, contohnya pada HTC Desire VC, HTC Desire SV, dan beberapa varian Smartfren Andromax.

Sedikit disayangkan, meski punya bekal prosesor dual core, tapi kapasitas RAM-nya terbilang terbatas untuk menunjang aplikasi berbasis multimedia. Untuk kapasitas memori eksternal, bisa membaca hingga kapasitas microSD 32GB.

Dilihat secara keseluruhan, dan dipertimbangkan dari sisi harga jualnya Rp2.299.000, nampak jelas Galaxy Infinite disasar untuk target kelas menengah kebawah. Ini bisa dilihat pula dari adopsi layar yang hanya 65 ribu warna. Samsung Galaxy Infinite ditenagai baterai lithium ion dengan kapasitas 1.500 mAh. Dari kapasitas tersebut dapat diperoleh waktu siaga di jaringan CDMA hingga 220 jam. Sementara untuk digunakan pada akses internet bisa mencapai 5 jam via jaringan EVDO Rev A. Dan 7 jam waktu selancar internet bila menggunakan koneksi WiFi. Dari hasil analisa lainnya, bila digunakan sebagai pemutar video dapat bertahan sampai 7 jam, dan 22 jam bila diperankan sebagai pemutar musik.

Untuk menunjang kinerjanya, Samsung Galaxy Infinite dibekali tiga jenis sensor, yakni sensor akselerometer, sensor kompas, dan sensor proximity.

Design

The Liquid S1 just about qualifies as a handset rather than a tablet. With its 5.7-inch screen, it’s quite a handful, dominating the original Samsung Galaxy S4′s mere 5 inches, though it’s dwarfed by the S4 Mega’s 6.3 inches. Still, it’s managed to keep the size down to a wafery 8mm deep, though the case quality feels a bit plasticky and cheap.

Android, software and performance

It’s running the very latest 4.2.2 Jelly Bean version of Android, but unlike most smartphones, you won’t notice much difference between this and the original Google version you’ll find on the Nexus 4. Acer has left the user interface pretty much untouched with original Android icons and widgets intact.

There is one difference however. The new Float UI allows you to overly some apps over others, a bit like Sony’s small apps innovation. So you can have the calculator, maps, camera or notes floating on top of whatever app you already have open. It’s just these four at the moment, though Acersays it plans to add more soon. It’s a neat idea, though it’s a shame there’s no way to resize the floating apps to suit your needs.

The quad-core processor is clocked at 1.5GHz and backed by 1GB RAM. It might just be the RAM that makes the difference since this certainly isn’t one of the fastest phones we’ve come across. Our AnTuTu performance benchmark score was 15,465 — way behind the top quad-core handsets like the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC One.

Photography

The 8-megapixel camera includes autofocus and an LED flash, plus a few handy extras like HDR, continuous shot, smile detection and panorama view. Picture quality is pretty decent, with realistic colours and good levels of detail in good light — despite the large F2.0 lens, quality seems to dissipate rapidly in low light conditions.

Acer extras include the AcerCloud, which offers unlimited free storage space online that you can access from the Liquid S1 or other devices.

There’s only 8GB of memory on board, which doesn’t seem like a lot these days, but you can add a microSD card to bump that up by a further 64GB.

The large 2,400mAh battery held up very well, delivering a good day and a half of heavy use.

Conclusion

The Acer Liquid S1 is quite a handful but it has an excellent HD screen and a pretty good camera too. With the latest flavour of Android and plenty of free online storage available via AcerCloud, it offers a credible alternative to the big names.
